Джон Грубер в подкасте «Ток-шоу» комментирует наезды на Эпл за то, что Сири есть только на Айфоне 4С:

I know that the cynical people would think that Apple is out to skin people to every dollar they can get and they want everybody to update. But I really don’t think the evidence shows that, I think that Apple is very aggressive about giving older, year old, two-year old phones as many features as they can. I really don’t think Apple is interested in trying to get people to buy a new iPhone every year. I think Apple is perfectly satisfied with people who upgrade every two or even three years... Someone who buys a new iPhone every three years is a great iPhone customer.

I mean they certainly welcome it when idiots like me buy one every year but I don’t think they see it as typical. And I think they want to make those people happy. I think Apple absolutely realizes that in the mass market $300-400 cellphones even considering that they are subsidized with a 2-year contract, that’s a lot of money. I think that they acknowledge that.

There’s a new headline every week talking about how Google has surpassed the iPhone, it’s like, why is this still news? But at the same time, it’s still news because it hasn’t. They’re looking for information about why it has, they keep trying to say, oh no, everything is changed now, Android is ahead, but it isn’t. Because if Android was ahead, then we would be criticizing Android.

Оправдываясь за баг с хранением кучи ГПС-данных в Айфоне и его бекапе, Эпл между делом упомянул (п. 8), что готовится создать свой сервис пробок через пару лет. Когда последний раз Эпл заранее рассказывал о своих планах?..

В предпоследнем выпуске «Тек-найт-оул-лайва» (The Tech Night Owl Live) Дэниел Эран Дилгер опять мочит всех:

It’s the same thing with Android: it’s just people with really low expectations... You know, people who use Macs have really high expectations. You go to Apple retail stores, and the way people talk about things, and the way people express their comments online in discussion forums about Apple stuff, they sound like BMW owners. They just have really high expectations.

It’s like, oh my, I can’t believe my laptop after 5 years, I can tell where my hand have been because, you know, my oils on my hands are staining the case or something, why doesn’t Apple fix this? You know, they are kind of unreasonable.

Whereas PC owners are... all they care about is price, and the same thing with Android, all they care about is not having Apple. And so they will put up with ridiculous stuff, that is unbelievable. And so they won’t talk about all these problems with the app store, where you just can’t download an app, because everything is garbage... It’s just stolen apps with malware wrapped around them, and there’s a whole bunch of wallpapers. You know, that’s because people who have high expectations don’t buy Android phones. People who buy Android phones are nerds who like to mess with junk. And so you don’t hear these kind of problems...

The physical size matters, which is exactly the reason Apple would build a smaller iPhone. A smaller screen would force app rewrites? No. What if the smaller iPhone had a pixel format of 480×320? The same as the iPhone 3GS, 3G and the original? No rewriting required at all. And guess what? Apple would classify it as a Retina Display. Pure genius.

Забавно, как чувак пишет полную хрень, а в конце приписывает «Pure genius», типа это как бы намёк на то, что Эплы гении, что «наверняка так сделают», но по факту-то «гений» сам чувак, что это придумал (ведь Эплы-то этого не придумывали пока в силу трезвости).
